BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A Beckley man is facing multiple felony charges after police responded to reports of shots fired and a man allegedly brandishing a firearm at a residence.
According to police, officers were dispatched on February 16, 2026, after emergency dispatchers received multiple complaints of gunfire in the area. One caller also reported that a man had come to their door claiming a woman stole his check and allegedly displayed a firearm.
Investigators reviewed nearby surveillance video, which captured a disturbance followed by the sound of a gunshot. The footage reportedly showed a man fleeing the area on foot. Officers later located a .45 ACP shell casing at the scene, consistent with the gunshot heard in the video.
Using city camera systems, officers tracked a suspect matching the description through the area and eventually located the individual near Robert C. Byrd Drive, where he was detained.
Police identified the suspect as Christopher Johnson. During a search, officers reportedly recovered two firearms from his person — a Kahr CW45 pistol and a North American Arms .22 magnum revolver. Investigators say the ammunition in the pistol matched the casing recovered from the scene.
Johnson was taken into custody and transported for processing. After being advised of his Miranda rights, police say Johnson admitted he was present during the disturbance and had the pistol with him, though he denied firing or brandishing the weapon.
A criminal history check revealed Johnson had a prior felony armed robbery conviction, making it illegal for him to possess firearms.
Johnson is now charged with two counts of wanton endangerment and two counts of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
