BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Beckley mom is charged with child abuse.
According to police, on July 17, 2021, an officer responded to Texas Steak House on Harper Road about a female adult shaking an infant. When the officer arrived, he spoke to two witnesses on the scene. One witness advised that he had observed the defendant, Alica Pate, shake the infant and told the infant to “shut the f*** up.” Another witness stated that she observed the defendant “holding the baby up to her face maybe three to four inches away and yell stop it. stop.”
When police made contact with Pate, they observed red markings on the infant’s left upper stomach, left lower back, left and right lower legs, and left lower thigh. The markings were consistent with being squeezed.
While attempting to take Pate into custody, she tried to move away from the police.
Pate is charged with obstructing and child abuse. She is currently in Southern Regional Jail under a 25,000 dollar bond.
