BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Beckley has announced an upcoming Planning Commission meeting scheduled for February 4, 2025, to review the site plan for a proposed Starbucks location on Harper Road.
The meeting has generated significant public interest, prompting the Beckley Code Enforcement Department to clarify its purpose.
According to city officials, the meeting will focus solely on a site plan review to ensure that all necessary utilities are available at the proposed location and that zoning and stormwater requirements are met.
The review is not intended to approve or deny the business itself, as the property is already zoned as a B-1 Neighborhood Business District, where coffee shops are a permitted use.
The presence of similar businesses in the area is due to the types of commercial activities allowed under the B-1 zoning regulations.
The city emphasized that it cannot limit competition among businesses or impose additional restrictions on zoning districts that are not already in place.
