BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beckley Police Department will soon be receiving new radios and bulletproof vests thanks to a federal bipartisan appropriations package.
On Friday, U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) helped secure a number of West Virginia priorities in the bipartisan appropriations package.
These six funding bills included critical priorities Senator Manchin championed such as keeping West Virginia on the cutting edge of innovation, promoting our energy and national security, rebuilding West Virginia’s infrastructure, and keeping the Mountain State Wild and Wonderful.
They also included $191,265,370 in Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) requests, or earmarks, for 151 West Virginia projects.
Two of those projects include new radios and bulletproof vests for the Beckley Police Department.
Congress has awarded the Beckley Police Department $57,000 for 10 new portable radios, and $36,000 for 30 new bulletproof vests.Â
