BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – For the first time, Beckley Rotary Club will hear from Ericke S. Cage, president of West Virginia State University at the regularly scheduled Tuesday, Oct. 30 meeting.
West Virginia State University (WVSU) is a public historically black, land-grant university in Institute, West Virginia, in which Cage has served, first as interim president (2021) and then unanimously chosen as the institution’s 13th president in 2022.
Cage will provide an update on the State of the University.
According to Club President, Kristi Williams Dumas, Rotary’sgoal is to strengthen the capacity of communities to support basic education and literacy, reduce gender disparity in education, and increase adult literacy.
“We support education for all children and literacy for children and adults,” says Dumas. “Just like Rotary is for everybody, education should be for everybody.”
Cage is a native of Halifax County, Virginia and joined the university in July 2021 as vice president and chief of staff. He was subsequently appointed by the Board as the university’s chief operating officer on July 30, 2021, with responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of the university.
Prior to joining WVSU, Cage served as executive advisor to the president and Board of Visitors at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia.
Cage is a graduate of Virginia Tech and the Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. He holds a juris doctorate from the Rutgers University Law School and a Master of Law degree in litigation and dispute resolution from the George Washington University Law School.
