BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Governor Jim Justice, alongside Transportation Secretary Jimmy Wriston and West Virginia Parkways Authority Executive Director Jeff Miller, officially announced the grand opening of the Beckley Travel Plaza, a cutting-edge facility designed to serve travelers along the West Virginia Turnpike.
The new plaza offers a range of dining options, including Starbucks, Wendy’s, Popeye’s, and the 24/7 Mountain State Market.
It also features expanded restroom facilities, EV charging stations, a drive-through, and separate fueling options for vehicles and tractor-trailers.
Travelers will also find the Tamarack Artisan Shop, showcasing West Virginia craftsmanship and providing a unique experience for families, tourists, and professional truck drivers.
Its central location ensures easy access for those traveling to and from destinations across the state and beyond.
“I’m truly blown away by how this plaza has turned out—it’s even more than we imagined,” Gov. Justice said. “We needed to update our travel plazas to match the excitement and energy of our visitors, and that’s exactly what we’ve done. This isn’t just a pit stop; it’s our opportunity to show off the beauty and spirit of West Virginia.”
The Beckley Travel Plaza is part of a $152 million initiative approved by the West Virginia Parkways Authority in May 2022 to modernize the Turnpike’s travel plazas.
The project was shaped by feedback from a 2021 survey of Turnpike travelers.
In February 2023, the Parkways Authority awarded a $122 million contract to Paramount Builders LLC of St. Albans for the renovation of the Beckley and Bluestone travel plazas.
The Bluestone plaza is expected to open in mid-January.
“This facility will showcase West Virginia to millions of people, and it will transform what it means to provide safe, clean, and modern roadway facilities rich with amenities to the traveling public on a national level,” said Jeff Miller. “The WV Turnpike remains committed to providing the best user experience possible on our roadway, and this is no exception.”
