FAYETTE COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Beury Mountain Fire, which began on Thursday, September 12, continues to burn in New River Gorge National Park & Preserve.
The fire is located in a remote area of the park on steep terrain and has currently scorched 13 acres.
As of the latest update Wednesday evening, the fire is 68% contained.
Firefighters from New River Gorge and Cuyahoga Valley National Parks, as well as personnel from the National Forest Service and a contract engine, are actively fighting the fire.
Additional support from the Bureau of Land Management in New Mexico is expected soon to help combat the fire and prepare for increased fire danger in the coming days.
Although the area received some rain yesterday, conditions are expected to become drier, potentially increasing fire activity.
Campers within the park are urged to refrain from using campfires until the fire threat is reduced.
