Biden Offers Support to Democrats, but the Party wants to move on from him

WASHINGTON, DC (LOOTPRESS) – As the Trump administration rolls back Democratic initiatives, former President Joe Biden has privately assured party leaders that he is ready to raise funds, campaign, and do whatever is necessary to help Democrats regain lost ground, according to sources close to him.

Biden met last month with newly elected Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin, offering his assistance as the party struggles to rebuild amid sinking poll numbers. However, his outreach has received a lukewarm response. Many Democratic donors and activists believe Biden, at 82, is more associated with the party’s past than its future.

“Who’s going to want Joe Biden back in the game?” said a major Biden supporter, speaking anonymously to discuss the matter candidly.

A recent NBC News poll reflects the party’s declining popularity, with only 27% of registered voters holding a favorable view—the lowest level since polling began in 1990. Asked about Biden’s potential return to the political stage, President Donald Trump quipped, “I hope so.”

Jill Biden Also Ready to Help

Former First Lady Jill Biden is also prepared to campaign and raise funds for Democrats as she and her husband settle into post-presidential life in Delaware.

“She understands the responsibilities that come with having served in office and is ready to help in any way she can,” said a source close to her.

Beyond politics, the Bidens are carving out new roles. Both are working on books, with Biden consulting former senior officials, including Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan, for his memoir. He continues to split his time between Delaware and Washington, often commuting via Amtrak, a habit from his Senate years.

Fallout From 2024 Lingers

Democrats remain divided over Biden’s involvement. Some see him as a respected figure who still commands admiration within the party.

“If you ask any state party chair whether they’d want Biden as a keynote speaker for their annual dinner, the answer would be yes,” said DNC Vice Chair Jane Kleeb.

However, others argue that reminding voters of the 2024 election—where Biden’s late withdrawal left Vice President Kamala Harris scrambling to mount a campaign—is a risky strategy. A recent CNN poll found that only 1% of Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents view Biden as the party’s standard-bearer.

Longtime Democratic fundraiser Alan Kessler said Biden could still be an asset in specific regions, such as Scranton, Pennsylvania, but added, “It’s time to move on with new leadership.”

Biden himself has no regrets, according to sources familiar with his private conversations. He remains convinced that Trump’s victory resulted from the party’s internal pressure for him to step aside.

Trump Keeps Biden in the Spotlight

Despite Biden’s retreat from public life, Trump continues to invoke his predecessor frequently. According to an NBC News review, Trump has mentioned Biden, his family, or his administration more than 400 times since taking office in January—primarily in discussions about immigration, inflation, and foreign policy.

Even Vice President J.D. Vance has taken jabs at Biden. Speaking at a tech summit, he quipped, “In defense of Joe Biden, he was asleep most of the time. I don’t think he totally realized what he was doing.”

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt justified the continued focus on Biden, stating, “We’re still fixing the many problems created by the Biden administration.”

Biden’s New Public Role

Since leaving office, Biden has largely avoided responding to Trump’s attacks. His advisers believe engaging would shift the focus from Trump’s actions to a personal rivalry, which they want to avoid. Instead, surrogates and allies have taken up the task of countering Trump’s rhetoric.

“It makes no sense for Joe Biden to respond to Donald Trump,” said Democratic strategist Donna Brazile. “The American people are looking forward, not backward.”

Biden’s first post-presidency speaking event was a quiet one—an address at the National High School Model United Nations in New York. After the speech, he took questions and posed for photos with students.

Jill Biden, meanwhile, has found a new role: offering comfort to those unsettled by the current political climate.

“She is finding herself reassuring people,” said a source close to her. “More and more, people come up to her looking for reassurance.”

As the Bidens adjust to life after the White House, their influence within the Democratic Party remains an open question—one that party leaders are still grappling with as they chart a path forward.
