RALEIGH COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved a compromise settlement on Wednesday to increase Black Diamond Power Co.’s consolidated purchase power surcharge by approximately $1.2 million in additional revenue annually. The Charleston-headquartered company purchases electricity from Appalachian Power Co.
Black Diamond had asked for $2.3 million when it filed the case on August 12.
The parties involved – the company, PSC staff, and Appalachian Power — reached a compromise on November 12, and it was that settlement the Commission endorsed. A hearing scheduled for November 13 was canceled.
Under the proposal, residential rates will increase by $20.52 a month, or 14.76 percent, for a customer using an average of 834 kilowatt hours of electricity. The original filing would have increased customer bills by $41.29 monthly.
The company provides service to 3,932 customers along 1,000 circuit miles in Sophia, Raleigh County; Clay, Clay County; and Mullens, Wyoming County, according to its latest filing.
