BLUEFIELD, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Bluefield and Bluefield Police Department have been awarded a $500,000 federal grant aimed at expanding services for children and young people who are victims of crime.
The funding comes through the U.S. Department of Justice Office for Victims of Crime’s Fiscal Year 2026 Services for Victims of Crime Program.
According to the Bluefield Police Department, the funding will support a project called “Safe Futures: Supporting Child and Youth Victims.”
The project is intended to increase the availability, accessibility and effectiveness of trauma-informed and victim-centered services for children and youth victims in Bluefield and throughout Mercer County.
Officials said the initiative will expand efforts designed to promote safety, healing and resilience among young victims while also providing support aimed at long-term stabilization.
The Bluefield Police Department announced the grant award Tuesday.
