BLUEFIELD, VA (LOOTPRESS) – Bluefield University will hold an open house on Friday, August 8, from 2 to 4 p.m. to unveil the newly renovated Alumni Hall dormitory.
The dorm, which had been closed for several years due to deterioration and fire damage, will reopen this fall, offering improved housing for students.
The renovation project was made possible through a successful fundraising effort by the university, which raised $400,000 to match a grant from the Hugh I. Shott Jr. Foundation.
The combined $800,000 funded major upgrades to the building, bringing 46 student rooms back into use for the fall 2025 semester.
“Thanks to our generous donors, this upgrade has become a reality for our students and will benefit our local community as we house more students on campus,” said Dr. Steve Peterson, university president.
“We are excited to bring new life to Alumni Hall. This restoration aligns with our vision for campus renewal, ensuring our students have a quality environment for learning and community.”
Renovations include new bathrooms in each room, resurfaced ceilings, new flooring, and updated cabinets and countertops.
This effort marks the first phase of a broader campus revitalization plan aimed at improving facilities and increasing on-campus enrollment.
The public is invited to attend the open house and tour the updated dormitory.
A brief program will begin at 2:15 p.m. Alumni Hall is located directly above the Dome athletic facility at 3000 College Avenue. RSVPs are encouraged by emailing bjustis@bluefield.edu or calling 276-326-4201.
