BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Raleigh County Circuit Judge Todd Kirby has announced that he will run for the unexpired term of the late West Virginia Supreme Court Justice Tim Armstead.
In a statement released this Monday, Kirby said the decision came after careful thought.
“After lots of prayer, reflection and discussion with my friends and family I have decided to run in the upcoming election for the unexpired term of the late Supreme Court Justice Tim Armstead,” he said.
Kirby added that while Armstead’s legacy cannot be duplicated, he feels compelled to seek the seat because of his dedication to the state and its residents.
“While Justice Armstead’s unique qualities will never be matched, I feel called to take this step based on my love for this state and for the amazing people who call it home.”
Kirby said he has already started the formal process to campaign for the position.
“Today I filed the paperwork necessary to begin forming a broad coalition of West Virginians from across the Mountain State who believe in preserving our God-given Constitutional rights, the rule of law and fairness within our court system.”
The judge also emphasized that he will continue working in Raleigh County while running.
“I will continue to proudly serve in my current role as Circuit Judge during the campaign and look forward to this humbling opportunity and challenge,” he said.
The election will determine who fills the remainder of Armstead’s term on the state’s highest court.
