MONONGALIA COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Authorities have recovered a submerged vehicle from Cheat Lake in an operation led by the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office on January 26, 2025.
The vehicle, a Hyundai Tucson, had been reported missing from Pennsylvania. Investigators identified the driver as Kevin Lataille of Smithfield, Pa.

The circumstances surrounding the vehicle’s submersion remain under investigation.
Officials are asking for public assistance, particularly from anyone who may have information, photos, or video of the I-68 Eastbound Cheat Lake Bridge area around noon on January 19, 2025.

The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office expressed gratitude to the multiple agencies involved in the recovery effort, including dive teams, fire departments, emergency services, and law enforcement.
