FAYETTEVILLE, WV (LOOTPRESS) – West Virginia American Water has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for approximately 286 customers in the Fayetteville area following a water main break.
The advisory affects residents on Wood Avenue, Greenbrier Street, King Avenue, Jefferson Street, Lincoln Street, Pierce Street, Straughter Street, Wars Street, Jasper Street, Washington Street, Craig Avenue, Gatewood, Hess Road, Jasper Road, Kaymoor Road, and Newton Road.

Crews are currently working to repair the break, with restoration of service expected by 11:30 a.m.today.
Once water service is restored, affected customers are advised to boil all water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, or bathing, until further notice.
The boil advisory is a safety measure to eliminate the risk of potential contaminants in the water system.
West Virginia American Water recommends the following precautions:
- Discard ice and beverages made with tap water;
- Store boiled water in the refrigerator for drinking;
- Provide pets with cooled, boiled water;
- Avoid relying on home filtration systems in place of boiling;
- Use only boiled water to clean minor wounds.
Customers will receive updates through the American Water alert notification system.
