BOONE COUNTy, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Boone County man is facing charges after troopers recovered a stolen four-wheeler that had been sold for a fraction of its value, according to the West Virginia State Police.
Around 9:42 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Trooper R.K. Bowers received a call from Boone County 911 reporting a stolen green Honda Rancher 350, valued at approximately $1,340, from a residence along River Road in the Comfort area.
The victim told investigators the theft occurred around 2 a.m. on Friday, June 13, and provided security footageshowing two men — including Matthew Hawkins, identified as the suspect — trespassing on the property before stealing the four-wheeler.
The footage also reportedly shows the men pushing and then riding the vehicle across a parking lot before disappearing from view. One of the suspects allegedly damaged a security camera in an attempt to hide their identities.
The victim later learned that the stolen four-wheeler was spotted at a residence on Toney’s Branch Road in Comfort.
In the early morning hours of Sunday, June 15, Trooper Bowers and Trooper M.D. Veres arrived at the location and found the missing four-wheeler parked in the front yard. The man who had purchased it told troopers he had bought it earlier that evening for $350 and provided a signed bill of sale bearing Hawkins’ name.
The four-wheeler was recovered, and Hawkins now faces theft-related charges in connection with the incident.
