Boys Basketball Roundup: Beckley, Greater Beckley, Midland Trail, James Monroe and Princeton win Friday

Elijah Redfern scores 32 for Beckley to break 1,000 career points

Greater Beckley Christian 61, West Logan Christian 59

Institute – Greater Beckley Christian held off West Logan Christian 61-59 Friday afternoon at the 2023 FCA Hoops Classic played at Wests Virginia State University.

Kellen Heffernan poured in 23 points, grabbed six rebounds and had three steals to lead the Crusaders.

Freshman Keegan Davidson added 13 points, along with seven rebounds and four assists and Isaiah Kincaid grabbed nine rebounds.

Averyk Woodson narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds for GBC.

Jacob Walls led all scorers with 26 points for West Logan, while James Scites added 16 points and Jordan Adams scored 15.

Institute – Poca outscored Greenbrier West 29-12 to roll past the Cavaliers 51-30 Friday at the 2023 FCA Hoops Classic played at West Virginia State University.

Cole Godish led the Dots with 17 points, while Keaton Meeks added 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.

Braydon McClung led Greenbrier West with 13 points and six rebounds. Colton Dunbar added eight points.

Morgantown – Elijah Redfern exploded for 32 points to lead Beckley past University 71-46 Friday night.

Coby Dillon added 14 points and Zyon Hawthorne scored 19 for the Flying Eagles.

Redfern now has 1,009 points for his career moving ahead of Tink Brown, Andre White, Kevin Harrington and Mario Thompson into 16th place all-time in career scoring for Beckley.

Dunmore – Midland Trail placed five players in double figures and steamrolled Pocahontas County 93-47 Friday night on the road.

Payton Bailes led all scorers 24 points, followed by Eli Cooper with 18 points and Bryar Bailes with 14.

Jaden Gladwell added 12 points for the Patriots and Justin Cooper scored 11.

Lindside – Ryan Cole scored 29 points to lead James Monroe past Meadow Bridge 95-23 Friday night.

Princeton – Princeton took a commanding halftime lead and went on to defeat Mercer Christian 77-32 in the Princeton Holiday Tournament Friday.

Nik Fleming led the Tigers with 17 points while Brit Beasley, Koen Sartin and Zayden Neely added 10 points each.

M.J. Patton scored 14 points for the Cavaliers and Kyler Carpenter added 13 points and grabbed six rebounds.

Morgantown – A slow start doomed Shady Spring Friday as the Tigers fell 56-47 at Morgantown.

Shady trailed 30-13 at the break, making a late run before falling short.

Ammar Maxwell led the Tigers with 18 points while Jack Williams added 11.

Sharron Young led Morgantown with with 20 points in the win.
