Nitro 65, Sissonville 54
Charleston – Beating a team three times in the same season is never easy. Tuesday morning at the 2024 Boys State Basketball Tournament, Class AAA No. 3 seed Nitro pulled off the trifecta against No. 7 on the biggest stage.
Out-rebounding the Indians 40-25 and cashing in on 16 second chance points, the Wildcats knocked of Sissonville 65-54.
The Indians led after one quarter before Nitro began to control the paint and take command of the game.
The Wildcats doubled-up Sissonville 36-18 in the paint and corralled 15 offensive rebounds.
Offensive balance was the key for Nitro with Eli Lovejoy and Ashton Crouch scoring 13 points each. Landon Poniatowski had a double-double with nine points and 14 rebounds, while Crouch had nine boards.
Ty Stephens dropped in 12 for the Wildcats.
Jake Wiseman and Dylan Casto scored 11 points each for Sissonville and Luke Michael had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Nitro will play the winner of No. 2 seed Shady Spring and No. 7 North Marion Thursday at 11:15 a.m.
