Tug Valley 56, Doddridge County 42
Charleston – Class A No. 2 seed Tug Valley used a fourth-quarter surge to pull away from upset-minded Doddridge County Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the boys state high school basketball tournament.
The No. 7 seeded Bulldogs, who were back in the big dance for the first time since 2006, trailed by only four after three quarters, but fell to the Panthers 56-42 after being outscored 17-7 in the final period.
Buddy Marcum scored 17 points for Tug Valley and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Braydun Ferris added 16 points and handed out eight assists. Bryson Ella scored 10 points.
Brandon Hileman had 14 points for Doddridge and Jacob Dehaven scored 12. Landon Thomas had 10 rebounds.
The Panthers will play No. 3 seed East Hardy Friday night at 7:15 in the semifinals.
