BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – CASA of New River has announced its official launch along with the planned swearing-in ceremony for Dr. Kristi Williams Dumas.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 10:45am on July 17, 2024, and will mark an important milestone in the efforts of the organization in bringing volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocates to the Southern West Virginia region.
CASA of New River works to promote and support court-appointed volunteer advocacy to help provide victims of neglect or abuse with the opportunity to thrive in safe, permanent homes, according to Kristi Williams Dumas, PsyD.
“We are committed to our local children, ones who have experienced abuse or neglect, and ensuring they are allowed to thrive in a safe and loving home,” says Dumas, who will be serving as the executive director for CASA of New River.
Board president, Kellie Gunnoe remarks that Dr. Dumas’ extensive experience provides her with firsthand insight regarding the significance of a dedicated adult voice to advocate for children in court.
“Dr. Dumas’ vision has now become a reality with the establishment of CASA of New River, which aims to serve children in the New River Gorge and surrounding areas,” Gunnoe says. “Community support and commitment to serving our most vulnerable population will ensure that every child has a neutral party advocating on their behalf and giving them a voice.”
The goals of CASA of New River will include the safety of children in foster care, the option for children to have safe and loving family homes, and the minimum amount of time possible spent in foster care for children.
Dr. Dumas also encourages members of the public to get involved by volunteering.
CASA of New River is actively seeking volunteers who are passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. By becoming a CASA volunteer, you can help ensure that every child in foster care has a voice in the courtroom and a chance at a better future,” Dumas says.
