CASS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Cass Days 2023 is set to kick off this Friday which will feature live music, the Parade of Steam, vendors, and food.
All the action begins Friday at Cass Scenic Railroad State Park as country music artist and Cass native Wyatt Turner returns home to kick off the weekend with a performance from 5 PM-6 PM.
The Cass Days Cake Walk will run from 6 PM-10 PM. Attendees are asked to bring a cake, cupcakes, or their favorite dessert. Concessions will be available for purchase. The cost to participate in the cakewalk is $0.25 per ticket or 4 for $1.00.
Proceeds from Friday’s Cake Walk will benefit the family of Johnny Fitzgerald.
The main event of the weekend begins Saturday at 10 AM as the Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad present the 2023 Parade of Steam.
Attendees will have the opportunity to view all of the operable, steam locomotives, from the Cass parking lot as they move down the rails. The parade is free to watch.
The legendary locomotives will begin staging at the Cass Depot at 9:30 am, the parade will officially begin at 10:00 am and last for about an hour. The Rail & Trail Store located inside the Cass Depot will be open throughout the day for souvenirs including Parade of Steam merchandise.
Saturday will also feature live musical performances from Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys, Jesse Milnes Band, Austin Walkin’ Cane, Lonesome Mountain Wanderers, Dustin Benson, and Kindred Valley.
The Arts & Eats Street Fair featuring multiple food and craft vendors will be open from 9 AM-5 PM.
There will also be a Cass Days Square Dance at the Cass Community Center beginning at 7 PM. It’s free to participate in this event, but donations are welcome.
On Sunday, the final day of Cass Days, the Pocahontas County Farmer’s Market will be hosting brunch at the Cass Community Center which will feature locally sourced sausage, bacon, waffle bar & syrup, quiche fruit & pastries.
