BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – WV Collective staged its production of Diary of a Wimpy Kid over the weekend at the Raleigh Playhouse & Theatre.
Multiple sell-out shows were held over the course of three days as dozens of local young performers were afforded the opportunity to display their talents in a stage production which proved to be equal parts hilarious and heartwarming.
The diverse and dynamic group of youngsters were backed by a group of live musicians who effectively navigated an array of musical numbers, allowing cast members to show off their impressive vocal chops.
The production came together in no small part due to the steadfast efforts of Crystal Yost and director Jason Lockhart, the latter of whom praised the talented cast and staff and noted that professional-level performances were indeed a realistic possibility with any lineup of performers.
“Probably one of my great life experiences was working with all these kids,” said Lockhart. “And showing that you can put on a professional-level and entertaining show with anybody if you put in all the work and you bring in all the right people.”
Sponsored by Beckley Area Foundation, El Mariachi and Beckley ARH, and based on the book series of the same name, Diary of a Wimpy Kid follows middle-schooler Greg Heffley as he attempts to navigate the complex social terrain of middle school life.
