The Lootpress Player of the Week Award, sponsored by Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for softball and baseball season.
Below are the candidates for the first two weeks of the season. Voting will close Monday at midnight. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores throughout the week, win or lose. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com. Doing so is simple. All you need to do is take a picture of the official scorebook for both teams, or a screenshot of the gamechanger box and send it to us.
- Kerry Collins, Bluefield – Collins has been prolific on the mound and at the plate to start the season. He’s batting .357 with two home runs and has struck out 27 batters in 10 innings of work, sporting a 1-0 record for his efforts.
- Atticus Goodson, Independence – The multi-sport standout took little time getting acclimated to the diamond. Against Class AAA George Washington he went 3 for 3 at the plate, driving in two runs on the strength of a two-run home run that helped Indy secure a 12-10 win. He also pitched 2.2 innings, striking out three and allowing one hit. He was just as good in his second game, going 3 for 3 again and scoring three runs.
- Danny Dickenson, Beckley – Dickenson picked up a pair of wins against Princeton, striking out 11 in 6.2 innings of work when the two teams met earlier this week. He also drove in two runs in that game and hit a triple.
- Evan Belcher, Shady Spring – Belcher found success on both sides. As a pitcher he helped throw a combined no-hitter against Mount View, striking out five in three innings of work. At the plate he’s started the season 6 of 12 and had the game winning hit against Greenbrier East that helped score two run in the seventh inning of a 6-5 victory.
- Landon Hall, Liberty – Hall has opened the season with two multi-hit games, with the highlight coming in an 11-0 win over Richwood. He was 2 for 4 in that game, collecting five RBIs and triple.
