With all of the Week 8 action wrapped up it’s time to pick a Player of the Week.
- Ian Cline (Greenbrier East) – Cline ran the ball 27 times for 284 yards Friday in a 42-7 win over Ripley. The sophomore running back’s performance registered as the third-best single-game mark in program history. He put those yards to use, scoring four times in the win to keep East on the playoff track. - Eli Allen (James Monroe) – Allen was a star on both sides of the ball in James Monroe’s win over Midland Trail. He caught four passes for 89 and two touchdowns. On defense he caught two more passes, intercepting Midland Trail quarterback Josh Dickerson twice in the final two minutes of the first half, returning one 70 yards for a touchdown. Full Story
- Dustin Adkins (Meadow Bridge) – Adkins threw touchdown passes of 45, 43 and 89 yards as Meadow Bridge kept its playoff hopes alive with a 22-6 win over Summers County Friday. Full Story
- Jacorian Green (Bluefield) – Green had the opportunity to play two games last week and made the most of both. Against PikeView on Monday, he hauled in two passes for 74 yards and two touchdowns. On defense he intercepted a pass at the PikeView 10 and returned it 90 yards for another score as the clock expired in the first half. Against Tazewell on Friday he caught four passes for 30 yards but also returned another interception 75 yards for his fourth score of the week. Full Story
- Grant Cochran (Princeton) – Cochran completed 11 of his 19 passing attempts for 235 yards and two touchdowns as Princeton pulled off a comeback 21-16 win at Hedgesville Friday to help the Class AAA No. 5 Tigers remain unbeaten. Full Story
- The Independence Offensive Line (Independence) – A deviation from the norm, the entire Independence offensive line is up for nomination and for good reason. The hog mollies up front paved the way as the Patriots rushed for 578 yards and 10 touchdowns. Of the Patriots’ 41 rushing attempts, 24 went for first downs. The line also protected passers Trey Bowers and Logan Phalin as both combined to go 6-of-9 for 89 yards and another touchdown. Full Story
- Ty Nickell (Greenbrier West) – Nickell only ran the ball 12 times but scored touchdowns on a quarter of his carries (three) as Greenbrier West rolled to its fifth win of the season in a 50-8 rout of Richwood. On defense Nickell also added eight tackles. Full Story
