RUTHERFORD COUNTY, TN (LOOTPRESS) – A pet zebra remains on the loose in Rutherford County, as the unusual animal continues to evade capture after escaping into the woods off Interstate 24 Saturday afternoon.
The zebra was last seen darting into a wooded area between the Joe B. Jackson Parkway and Epps Mill Road exits, prompting deputies to temporarily close parts of the interstate over the weekend due to the animal running through traffic on both sides.
According to Cpl. Zach Campbell of the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, the zebra’s owners—who had just obtained the animal Friday night—are still actively searching for it. Several professional tracking teams have now joined the effort, and a K9 search operation is scheduled for Tuesday.
As of Monday afternoon, the zebra remains at large.
Residents and travelers are urged to keep an eye out and not approach the animal. Anyone who spots the zebra is asked to immediately contact the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at 615-898-7770.
