RIPLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Cedar Lakes Conference Center will host its First Annual Veterans’ Voices Concert on November 15, 2025, featuring a special performance by veteran and singer-songwriter Derik S. Board.
This free community event is open to veterans, their families, and the public. From 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., attendees can enjoy refreshments, giveaways, counseling services, and veterans’ resources in the Assembly Hall. The evening will continue with a moving performance by Derik S. Board, honoring and celebrating veterans by giving a voice to those who have faithfully served our country.
“Cedar Lakes has always been a gathering place for community, connection, and celebration,” said Holli Vanater, director of Cedar Lakes Conference Center and Air Force veteran. “Hosting the Veterans’ Voices Concert is our way of giving back and recognizing the incredible sacrifices of those who have served. As a former Master Sergeant with the 130th Airlift Group at Yeager Airport, and the daughter of a Marine who served in Iwo Jima during World War II, I understand the importance of the strong bonds and camaraderie that occurs while wearing the uniform. Derik’s ability to be the voice for our brothers and sisters speaks volumes to this bond. I feel honored to host this amazing event.”
Derik S. Board, an Air Force veteran with the 130th Airlift Wing, also understands the challenges veterans face when returning home from combat. Through his work with local veterans, he was inspired to write songs reflecting their experiences, giving them a voice that fosters healing and empowerment. This inspiration is the foundation of his program, Commemorate Through Chords. “Music gives veterans a way to share their stories and find healing. I’m honored to partner with Cedar Lakes to celebrate their service and remind them that their voices matter” said Derik.
This event also marks the launch of a Veterans’ Program at Cedar Lakes, with plans to expand into a weekend art and music retreat for veterans and their families in the future. Veterans, families, and community members of all ages are encouraged to attend for a night of uplifting and inspiring entertainment.
