CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Starting July 1, West Virginia cell phone users will notice a higher charge on their monthly bills.
The state’s Wireless Enhanced 911 (WE911) fee is increasing from $3.64 to $4.01, the Public Service Commission of West Virginia (PSC) announced Thursday.
In addition to the base WE911 fee, customers will continue to pay an 8-cent wireless tower fee and a 29-cent public safety wireless fee, bringing the total monthly charge to $4.38 per wireless line.
Collected by the PSC and distributed to counties based on a set formula, the fees are designated to improve and maintain local 911 emergency services. The fee amount is recalculated every two years as directed by the state legislature.
