The Sophia All-stars and Central Greenbrier All-stars kept their championship dreams alive Sunday with a pair of wins at the West Virginia Little League Baseball State Tournament in Bridgeport
Both teams dropped their opening games Friday night before responding with wins Saturday and two Sunday in the double elimination format.
Playing in the Herd bracket, Sophia dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Martinsburg Friday night before picking up a 5-4 win over Fairmont Saturday.
Sophia survived a late push from Huntington in the first game Sunday to take a 5-4 win. In the afternoon contest, Sophia rolled past Tygarts Valley 12-2.
Central Greenbrier is playing in the Mountaineer bracket and opened the state tournament with a 12-3 setback to Hurricane.
Saturday Central Greenbrier broke out the bats in an 11-1 win over Chapmanville before beating the all-starts from Ona-Milton, 7-4.
In their final game Sunday, Central Greenbrier survived a late rally from Moorefield for a 7-6 win.
Both teams will be back in action again Monday at 7:30 p.m. A win will move them into the four-team championship final that is single elimination play.
Sophia will play the loser between Martinsburg and Elk District. Central Greenbrier will matchup with the loser between Bridgeport and Huntington.
The championship semifinals start Tuesday at 7 p.m. with the Little League championship game being played Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
The Oak Hill and Fayetteville 8-10 year old softball All-stars are also one win away from the championship round in Barboursville.
Oak Hill is playing in the Herd bracket and picked up wins over Braxton and Sissonville Friday before falling to the host team Saturday. They will now play the winner between Sissonville and Moorefield, Monday night at 7:30 p.m.
Fayetteville is competing in the Mountaineer bracket and opened play Friday with a win over Hedgesville. Saturday the ladies dropped their game to Hurricane and will play Logan Monday at 5:30 p.m.
The championship bracket starts Tuesday with the winners meeting Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
