BEAVER, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Katelyne Fry, a certified personal trainer and fitness enthusiast, is bringing aerial yoga to the School of Harmony in Beaver. Fry’s studio, KFit Aerial Yoga, will be held inside Evolve Fitness’ group fitness studio.
Fry, who has been practicing aerial yoga for nearly five years, says she has always loved exercising. In the past, she and her mother, who is also a fitness instructor, have taught multiple fitness classes. Fry has instructed in Mercer, Kanawha and now Raleigh County.
Fry says she was always inspired to teach fitness classes, but other things in her life kept taking precedence. In 2018, she received her personal trainer certification and began instructing aerial yoga classes.
“I do not like yoga. I can’t slow down enough to do yoga,” Fry laughed. “Aerial yoga just took everything to the next level. I loved the way my body felt. I liked the way I looked. This is really a confidence booster.”
Fry says aerial yoga, which combines traditional yoga poses, pilates, and dance with the use of a hammock or “silk” suspended from the ceiling, can appeal to yoga lovers, non-yoga lovers, men, and women. She always says the exercise is extremely beneficial for one’s body, health and mental wellbeing.
Benefits of aerial yoga include:
- Spinal realignment
- Deep vertebral stretching
- Promotion of a healthier digestive and lymphatic system
- Reduces signs of aging
- Improves flexibility
- Increases energy
- Joint and spinal disc decompression
- Relives stress by increasing endorphin levels
- Increases muscular strength
- Improves blood circulation
- Improves restorative injuries and illnesses (including breathing conditions)
“I am ecstatic to bring aerial yoga here to Beaver. There’s just nothing to do fitness-wise here that is innovative, but I always noticed the potential for something else here. It’s just like anything: supply and demand. We need something like this in southern West Virginia.”
The KFit grand opening will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 10. Fry says the opening will be the perfect opportunity for people to learn about the offered classes, get a feel for the studio and take advantage of promotional pricing.
The studio will officially open on Thursday, Feb. 11. Fry and a second instructor, Abby Honaker, will be teaching hour-long evening classes throughout the week and morning classes on the weekends. KFit will offer both aerial yoga and restorative yoga, which is slower and requires poses to be held longer than in aerial yoga.
Eight individuals can attend each class at a time, and masks are required while inside the studio.
While aerial yoga can be enjoyed at a beginner, intermediate and advanced level, Fry’s classes will consist mostly of beginner moves with intermediate poses blended in when the class becomes comfortable with the movements.
“I didn’t know I would get the response that I have been getting,” Fry shared, adding that starting this business was a spontaneous decision. “I want to inspire people to try something new and get out of their comfort zones. You can do a lot with your body once you try.”
Fry says she will be posting a March class schedule very soon. The current class schedule can be viewed on the KFit Facebook page.
Each class is currently priced at $20, but Fry will offer promotional prices, including promo packs, a special Valentine’s Day offer and a free class when four are purchased.
