CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A Charleston man was sentenced to a state correctional facility on Monday for striking another man with an axe handle.
According to Kanawha County court documents, on June 15, 2024, Joey Randall Butler, 11, 41, of Charleston, WV, struck Robert Wright in the back of the head with an axe handle. The blow caused a laceration to the rear of Wright’s head and, after being struck, Wright fell into a door frame, breaking his finger and dislocating his shoulder.
On September 9, 2024, Butler was convicted of Unlawful Wounding by virtue of a Guilty Plea. On Monday, October 21, 2024, Butler was sentenced to the statutory Maximum of one to five years confinement.
The Kanawha County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office commended the vigilance and professionalism of the Charleston Police Department for their assistance in the case, which was prosecuted by Senior Assistant Prosecuting Attorney George Sitler before the Kanawha County Circuut Judge, Kenneth Ballard.
