CHARLESTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – Friday, March 4, 2022, marks the 73rd anniversary of the Woolworth Building fire in Charleston.
One of the worst fires in the city’s history, the Woolworth Department Store fire resulted in the death of seven firefighters and the injury of nearly 20 rescuers.
Tomorrow, Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin will join members of the Charleston Fire Department and Charleston firefighter’s local union 317 to commemorate the anniversary of the tragedy. The event, which will take place at the site of the fire at 204 Capitol Street, will include a moment of silence, a bell ringing and a wreath-laying.
The public is welcome to attend the 10 a.m. commemoration.
