CHARLESTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Customers visiting the Charleston Main Post Office are noticing its shiny appearance after a team of custodians took on a special project to polish all the brass in the lobby of the building.
Acting Charleston, WV, Postmaster Angela Layne is amazed by the dedication of employees at the Main Post Office. “It took a lot of work to make these 3,000 PO Boxes shine. There is so much history in this building and the PO Boxes are no exception. They are the prettiest I have ever seen,” said Layne.
Cleaning the PO Box doors and the brass office doors facing the lobby were in addition to the custodial team’s regular work and took about a week to finish.
Custodian Brenda Davis feels a sense of accomplishment in presenting the shining doors to the customers. “The customers thank you and that is so satisfying,” she said. “This is one of the most beautiful lobbies, and I’m proud to work for the Postal Service.”
Construction of the building began in 1940 and was completed in 1942.
