WYOMING COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — Parents in Wyoming County are facing charges after troopers discovered them unconscious inside a vehicle with a young child present, authorities said.
According to the West Virginia State Police, Sgt. N.C. Boothe responded on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, to a report of a white vehicle parked along the roadside in Brenton with the driver and front-seat passenger passed out and a minor inside.
Upon arrival, Sgt. Boothe located a white Ford Escape parked along the roadway. As he approached the vehicle, he observed a young child, estimated to be around 3 to 4 years old, standing out of the rear passenger window.
Troopers say the driver, identified as Rocky Lee Lane, was found unconscious in the driver’s seat with his head down and drool visible on his face. A smoking device was reportedly observed between his legs. The front-seat passenger, identified as Amanda Nicole Lane, was also found passed out.
Sgt. Boothe opened the unlocked vehicle and was able to wake the driver, who appeared disoriented. Lane was removed from the vehicle and placed in hand restraints. According to the report, Lane admitted to smoking “slow,” a street term for fentanyl, inside the vehicle with the passenger and the child present.
Troopers also located a piece of silver foil containing a white and green substance in plain view on the center console, which Lane identified as the same substance. The suspected fentanyl was seized as evidence.
Lane initially told troopers he had been parked for about 30 minutes but later stated he may have been there for several hours.
The child, confirmed to be Lane’s 4-year-old son, was present during the incident.
Later at the West Virginia State Police detachment, Lane consented to field sobriety testing. Troopers reported multiple signs of impairment during the horizontal gaze nystagmus, walk-and-turn, and one-leg stand tests. Both parents were charged with multiple charges.
The investigation remains ongoing, and charges related to child endangerment, drug possession, and impaired driving are expected.
