The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the fifth week of the boys basketball season. Voting will close Tuesday, Jan. 17 at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Braden Chapman, Shady Spring – Chapman scored 21 against No. 8 Winfield and 33 against Class AAAA No. 4 Greenbrier East, helping the Tigers secure a 2-0 week.
- Garrett Mitchell, Wyoming East – Mitchell was stellar this past week, scoring 31, 21 and 24, helping the Warriors pick up three wins including a road victory at Beckley.
- Collin Fox, James Monroe – The Mavericks kept rolling this week, going 3-0 with wins over ranked foes including Tucker County. Fox was good for 19.6 points per game this past week.
- Goose Gabbert, Greenbrier East – Gabbert scored 17 points in each of the Spartans’ games this week including a victory over Spring Mills, avenging an earlier loss.
- Shaye Basham, Mercer Christian – Basham was good for 17.3 points per game as the Cavaliers went 2-1 this week.
- Connor Mullins, Meadow Bridge – Mullins scored 25 points, hitting the game-winning buzzer against Montcalm for the Wildcats.
- Briar Biles, Nicholas County – Bailes scored 22 points in a win over Braxton County.
- Nathan Riffe, PikeView – Riffe was good for 25 points as PikeView netted a win against Summers County.
- Braydon McClung, Greenbrier West – McClung averaged 20.5 points across tow contests, scoring a career-high 31 against James Monroe.
- Chase Hancock, Princeton – Hancock started fast, helping Princeton beat rival Bluefield with an 18-point showing against the Beavers.
