The Lootpress Player of the Week Award sponsored by Mid-State Ford, Little General, Bodyworks and The Law Offices of Brandon Steele, has returned for the second year.
Below are the candidates for the ninth week of the boys basketball season. Voting will close Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 11:59 P.M. The fan vote will be used in the event of a tie. There are also changes to the Player of the Week voting pertaining to the top overall vote getter that you can read about here.
In order for a player to be eligible or nominated, the stat keeper or coach must report all scores and statistics. Scores can be reported to Tylerjackson@lootpress.com and Rustyudy@lootpress.com.
- Dale Boone – Boone averaged 11 points per game but scored 21 in a big win over Webster County.
- Garrett Mitchell, Wyoming East – Mitchell averaged 24.5 points per game this week, tying the program record with 39 points in a win against Liberty. He added a 20-point performance against county foe Westside despite missing the second half.
- Zach Bowman, Liberty – Bowman averaged 16 points per game for the Raiders this week who finished with a 2-1 record.
- Noah White, Montcalm – White scored 19 for the Generals in a win over Meadow Bridge.
- Adam Seams, Greenbrier East – Seams averaged 10.6 points per game against a tough slate that featured Class AAA No. 1 Shady Spring. The Spartans picked up a win against Oak Hill.
- Malachi Lewis, Oak Hill – Lewis averaged 10.5 points per game for the Red Devils who went 1-1 this week.
- Eli Campbell, Midland Trail – Campbell averaged 14.6 points per game for the Patriots, earning a second nomination for Player of the Week.
- Bryar Bailes, Nicholas County – Bailes was good for 13 points in each of the Grizzlies two games, helping them secure a 1-1 record.
- Will Looney, Bluefield – Bluefield went 1-1 this week but Looney scored 17 points against Class AA No. 2 Chapmanville and secured a 14-point, 12 rebound double-double against Class A No. 1 James Monroe.
- Jaedan Holstein, Shady Spring – Holstein averaged 10 points per game this week for the Tigers who picked up wins against Greenbrier East and Independence.
- John Rose, Greater Beckley – Rose was good for 23.5 points per game this week in leading the Crusaders to a pair of victories.
- David Thomas, PikeView – Thomas scored 19 points as PikeView notched a win against Nicholas County.
- Josh Burks, James Monroe – Burks scored 16 for the Mavs who defeated Class AA No. 2 Bluefield for the second time this season.
