FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) – On Feb. 27, the Council of the City of Fairmont voted to nominate Travis Blosser to be the 10th City Manager of Fairmont.
Blosser, a Fairmont native, got his start in municipal government as Councilmember for Fairmont in 2013.
While serving, he was afforded the opportunity to serve as Assistant City Manager for the City of Shinnston. By 2015, Blosser was hired as the fully-fledged City Manager of Shinnston.
Later that same year, he took another opportunity and was hired as City Manager of Weirton, West Virginia.
In 2018, Blosser was hired as the Deputy Executive Director of the West Virginia Municipal League to learn the role before being named Executive Director in 2019, which is his current title.
Blosser feels his experiences make him uniquely qualified for the role of City Manager in Fairmont, but most importantly, he’s excited for the chance to come home.
“This really is an opportunity to come home and to take the experiences from the things I’ve learned about municipal government – specifically West Virginia municipal government – and apply it to Fairmont,” Blosser said.
“I like to think of myself as someone who breaks down silos. I have a knack for not just wanting to put things on paper, but actually executing them and taking them across the finish line. Fairmont has some amazing projects that we can really push across the finish line.”
Following Tuesday evening’s vote, Mayor Anne Bolyard and City Attorney Kevin Sansalone will begin contract negotiations with Blosser.
Once completed, an ordinance will be brought before City Council to finalize the terms of the contracts.
That ordinance will require a first and second reading as well as a public hearing where the members of the public can give their input.
“I’m excited to be another effective member of the exceptional staff at the city of Fairmont and see Fairmont’s forward progression,” Blosser said. “I’m excited to accomplish the things that City Council wants to see moved forward and to be a part of taking this community to the next level.”
