BECKLEY, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Beckley has accepted a gift of real estate at 209 Temple Street.
The second reading of the ordinance to accept the gift was made by Beckley City Council members on Tuesday, May 25. The first reading was held on May 11, according to City Attorney Bill File.
During the meeting, Mayor Rob Rappold explained that the Temple Street lot is located next to the Temple Street Park and will be used to enhance the park by providing additional parking and other improvements.
Although a public hearing was held alongside the reading of the ordinance, no members of the community decided to take part and the ordinance went straight to a vote, passing unanimously.
After acquiring the property, the City of Beckley will be responsible for the removal of the remains of a burned structure that remains on the property. No dates were announced for said demolition and removal.
Mayor Rappold did not say who offered the property to the city, only that it was an individual in the community.
