CHARLESTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – On Monday, September 27, Charleston Mayor Amy Shuler Goodwin joined with members of Charleston City Council, members of the City’s Parks and Recreation Department and representatives from Tempo Construction to break ground on the city’s newest park.
The Beatrice Street Park located on Charleston’s West Side sits on the corner of Washington Street West and Beatrice Street. The park will house two basketball courts, a playground and picnic tables with games. There will also be dedicated parking for park visitors.
On Monday, city officials shared their thoughts on the park and how it will benefit the community.
“In talking with members of the community, including our youth, folks stressed the importance of a walkable park on our West Side flats,” said Goodwin. “This location is accessible by walking, biking, car and bus, giving a great amount of people access.”
“This park will be a great addition to the West Side and the City of Charleston,” added Councilman Larry Moore. “This is another way to give children and families more opportunities to get outside together.”
The park land, owned by the Charleston Urban Renewal Authority, is being leased by the City of Charleston until 2046. The park is expected to open by the end of the year.
