CHARLESTON, W.V. (LOOTPRESS) – In response to rising temperatures and numerous heat advisories, the City of Charleston announced that cooling centers will be open at the following locations:
- Roosevelt Neighborhood Center OPEN 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 502 Ruffner Avenue
- Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center OPEN 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 314 Donnally Street
- North Charleston Community Center OPEN 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 2009 7th Avenue
- Kanawha City Community Center OPEN 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 3511 Venable Avenue
According to the city, the centers will offer air-conditioned shelter and cold water to those who need it.
The city also reminds the public that the WV 2-1-1, a program of the Unites Ways of West Virginia, is always ready to help residents facing difficulties. Resource navigators are available to help connect individuals and families with food pantries, health care services, utility and eviction prevention assistance and more.
“Those seeking help should dial 2-1-1 or visit WV211.org,” the city wrote on its Facebook page. “Dial 2-1-1 or text your Zip Code to 898-211 today, help is available 24/7.”
