HUNTINGTON, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Per a Thursday announcement from the City of Huntington, there is an amnesty period being extended regarding the waiving of penalties which have accrued as a result of delinquent municipal service and refuse fees.Â
Amnesty is defined as ‘an undertaking by authorities to take no action against specified offenses or offenders during a fixed period.’ In this context, amnesty would refer to the forgiveness of accumulated fees.
This period of amnesty is offered from April 1, 2022 to June 30, 2022, and is said only to pertain to properties actively occupied by the owner. The period will have no impact on principal and interest owed, in keeping with regulations established by the Internal Revenue Service.Â
In order for penalties to be deferred, it is required that property owners pay off the principal amount in full.Â
Individuals seeking further information concerning the period of amnesty are encouraged to reach out to Laura Armstrong, who can be contacted by email at armstrongl@huntingtonwv.gov or by phone at (304) 696-5540 extension 2306.Â
