MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Morgantown will participate in the first North-Central West Virginia Outdoors Community Meetup at 6 p.m. on February 28, 2024 at Morgantown’s Ascend WV Basecamp, located at 1279 University Avenue in Morgantown, WV.
Hosted by West Virginia University’s Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative (OEDC), the meetup will provide an engaging venue for the public to hear from outdoor leaders, organizations, and area volunteer groups.
The meetup will also serve as an opportunity for the City of Morgantown to discuss the status of two important and related projects.
Staff representatives from the City and the OEDC will present an interactive, web-based tool that contains initial findings from their Trail Opportunities Analysis on City and WVU-owned properties throughout the region.
This phase of reports is focused on building a shared understanding of initial conditions and a common vocabulary to lay the groundwork for future discussions.
The team will also announce a trail user and community survey that day to begin public input for trail opportunities on City-owned lands.
City staff will also present an updated draft of cleanup and trail development plans for the City’s White Park Southside, including plans for community involvement during performance of the FY23 EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant.
Combined with other parallel efforts, presenting at the meetup will help ensure that knowledge of the plans reaches a broad set of citizens and stakeholders.
Representatives from the EPA and West Virginia’s Northern Brownfields Assistance Center will be on-deck to answer questions.
Free parking can be found at the Walnut Street Landing, and additional parking is available across the street at the City’s Chestnut Street Garage.
The City of Morgantown applauds the Smith OEDC’s ongoing commitment to developing Morgantown and West Virginia’s outdoor economy.
