UPDATE: The Annual CoalTown Christmas Parade has been rescheduled according to an announcement from the City of Welch on Wednesday.
Originally scheduled to take place on Friday, December 6, 2024, as part of the city’s annual CoalTown Christmas celebration, the CoalTown Christmas parade has been rescheduled for a later date due to inclement weather conditions.
The weather conditions in question follow a substantial dip in temperatures throughout the Mountain State this week, with temperatures consistently dropping into the 20s and below during the morning and evening hours in many areas.
According to the recent announcement from the City of Welch, the city’s 2024 CoalTown Christmas Parade event will now take place on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
The rescheduled parade event will begin at 7:00pm, with lineup scheduled for 6:30pm.

WELCH, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The City of Welch has announced the schedule of events for the month of December as the city’s CoalTown Christmas celebration gets underway.
Featured as part of the month-long celebration will be the annual CoalTown Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024. Parade lineup will begin at 6:30pm at Welch Elementary School and the parade itself will begin at 7:00pm.
Those interested in registering as a parade entrant or CoalTown Christmas vendor may do so at the registration website.
Prizes will be awarded for select participants in the categories of “Best Decorated Float” and “Best Decorated ATV.”
On Sunday, December 15, 2024, and December 22, 2024, the Trolley Express withy Polar Espress Movie & Pajamas Party will be hosted beginning at 1:00pm. Pickup for the event will take place at the Welch Armory and those wishing to participate may procure tickets at the event website.
