FAIRMONT, WV (LOOTPRESS) — The Rotary Club of Fairmont is giving back in a big way, donating $25,000 toward a major renovation of Morgantown Avenue Mini Park—a contribution that will also see the park renamed in the club’s honor.
During its meeting on May 27, Fairmont City Council unanimously approved a resolution to accept the donation and officially rename the site “Rotary Club of Fairmont Mini Park.”
“This project is about bringing neighbors together and creating a safe, inviting space for families and children,” said Julie Sawyer, president of the Rotary Club of Fairmont. “We’re thrilled to be part of transforming this small but meaningful park into something special for the community.”
The total cost of the park overhaul is estimated at $90,000, with the remaining $65,000 to be covered through the city’s 2025–2026 Capital Improvement Plan.
Planned upgrades include:
-
Two new playsets with fresh mulch and borders
-
New paved walkways
-
A replacement water fountain and a second new fountain
-
A new pavilion
-
Installation of security cameras
-
Enhanced landscaping and seating areas
Fairmont City Manager Travis Blosser praised the donation as a model for future public-private partnerships. “This is a shining example of how community organizations can directly shape and improve public spaces,” he said. “The Rotary’s investment raises the bar and we hope it inspires others to get involved.”
A groundbreaking ceremony for the park improvements is scheduled for June 2, 2025, at 10 a.m. City officials and Rotary Club members will be on hand to kick off the project.
