BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) — A medical call in Beckley turned violent Friday when a patient allegedly attacked emergency responders who were trying to assist him.
Authorities say EMS crews from Best Ambulance Services were treating Johnathan Adkins for seizures when he suddenly became combative. According to first responders, Adkins bit one paramedic three times on the forearm—causing visible bleeding—and punched two others in the face. Officers observed redness around one medic’s nose and multiple bite wounds on another’s arm.
Police helped restrain Adkins at the scene before transporting him to Raleigh General Hospital for further treatment. While still combative at the hospital, officials said he did not strike staff there.
Adkins was arrested for unlawful assault on emergency medical services personnel and battery on EMS personnel.
