BECKLEY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Tuesday’s regular session of the Raleigh County Commission was a brief affair with the bulk of the morning’s time dedicated to standard business.
Following introductions and the ceremonial reciting of the pledge of allegiance, the commission discussed exonerations and budget revisions before passing motions for two new law enforcement officers to be brought aboard as members of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.
Ian Cade Hasimura and Samuel A. Lilly, both of whom will join the ranks of the department as deputies.
The monthly COSAP report came next and was presented by Mr. Miller. The monthly drawdown illuminating the usage of grant funds for the funding of employee salaries saw a motion for a request for $4,205.92 to cover an employee dental package approved before the commission passed.
The agenda item of perhaps the most significance during this session was item 5.6 on the docket – Consideration of agreement between the Day Reporting Center and Alcohol Monitoring System, Inc which was also presented by Mr. Miller in Tuesday’s meeting.
According to Miller the contract in question has been reviewed and has been deemed appropriate. “This is giving us something to work with for our GPS monitoring,” he explains.
“Hopefully we’re going to find better service and more modern equipment at at least the same price, but maybe a little bit less to try to save money. But we’re still saving a ton of money at $3.20 per day right now.”
Among the documents presented for this item were both a master agreement and a service agreement, both of which have purportedly been reviewed. The motion for this agenda item passed through the commission.
No individuals present partook in the regular “public participation” portion of the session.
Finally, the session saw Steve Tanner appointed to the Raleigh County Housing Board in an appointment which is set to expire November 19, 2024.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Raleigh County Commission meeting is set to be held on Tuesday January 3, 2023 at 10:00 am in the Raleigh County Commission Chamber at 116 ½ N. Heber Street, Beckley, WV 25801.
