MERCER COUNTY, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Community Connections Inc., in collaboration with the Matoaka Parks and Recreation Committee and Matoaka Outreach—a subcommittee of the Mercer County Coalition for Healthy Communities—has donated solar-powered lighting to key areas of the town of Matoaka. This project is designed to enhance safety and create welcoming, accessible spaces for youth and all community members.
The solar lights will be installed in public areas identified as high-traffic zones for youth activities and community gatherings. This effort is part of a larger initiative aimed at enhancing the overall quality of life in rural communities through improved lighting, increased safety, and enhanced community engagement.
“Our goal is to help foster a stronger, safer community,” said Greg Puckett, Executive Director of Community Connections Inc. “Lighting plays a significant role in not only reducing safety risks but also creating spaces where people feel comfortable and supported.”
The donation was celebrated with a photo including key partners and supporters of the project:
Tony Chartrand, Dolly Chartrand, Sherry Sharpe–Johnson, Felicity Hammack, Blake Pacitto, Trevor Thornton, AJ Johnny, Greg Puckett, Eden Scruggs, and Candace Harless
The collaborative effort reflects a shared commitment across organizations and individuals to invest in the well-being of Matoaka’s residents, especially its youth.
Community Connections Inc. continues to work with local groups to implement sustainable, community-driven solutions across Mercer County. The solar lighting project in Matoaka is a shining example of what can be accomplished when partnerships prioritize health, safety, and opportunity.
