SMITHERS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – For many in Smithers, a trip through the local McDonald’s drive-thru isn’t just about grabbing a meal — it’s a chance to be greeted by Mary, a warm and familiar voice who brightens days with her smile and kind words.
Now, the community is coming together to return the kindness.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by a friend who met Mary through McDonald’s, Tina Vanmeter, to support Mary, a single mother facing overwhelming challenges.
Her daughter lives with severe autism, ADHD, and Pfeiffer Syndrome — a rare genetic disorder affecting the development of the skull, face, and limbs. The family frequently travels out of state for specialized medical care.
Mary has also been without a vehicle after a tree destroyed her car. Recently, she was seen walking home for over an hour after physical therapy.
A missed medical appointment for her daughter, due to rental car restrictions, highlights the barriers she faces without reliable transportation.
Despite her struggles, those who know Mary describe her as humble, selfless, and always putting others first. She’s known for noticing when customers are having a rough day and taking time to offer comfort and conversation.
The fundraiser’s goal is to purchase a safe and dependable car for Mary and her daughter. Any additional funds will go directly to her.
