ATHENS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – Concord University has been named to the 2025-26 Colleges of Distinction list, recognizing institutions that provide outstanding undergraduate experiences across the United States.

Each year, the Colleges of Distinction program identifies schools that demonstrate a strong commitment to student success, focusing on engagement, great teaching, vibrant communities, and positive outcomes.

The program highlights schools that go above and beyond traditional rankings to deliver high-quality, student-centered education.

In addition to being named a national College of Distinction, Concord also earned recognition as a:

• West Virginia College of Distinction
• Public College of Distinction
• Business College of Distinction
• Education College of Distinction
• Nursing College of Distinction
• College of Military Support

According to the Colleges of Distinction website, “We believe that a great education is about more than just prestige—it’s about finding the right college for each student.”

“We are honored that Concord University has been recognized as a College of Distinction. This recognition affirms our deep commitment to providing a high-quality, student-centered education that prepares graduates for meaningful lives of service and success,” said CU President Bethany Meighen.

“At Concord, we take great pride in offering an experience that is both affordable and personal, where every student is known, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential.”

The Colleges of Distinction selection process includes an evaluation of institutional data, interviews with school representatives, and outcomes-based research.

Unlike traditional ranking systems, Colleges of Distinction does not assign numerical rankings, instead focusing on unique strengths and student experiences.

“Concord has always been about people, our students, our faculty, and our community. This recognition simply highlights what we already know: Concord is a place to find your purpose and belonging,” said Dr. Amanda Sauchuck, CU associate provost and director of assessment.

Known for its welcoming community and scenic Appalachian setting, Concord University continues to emphasize academic excellence and career readiness.

The school offers programs in fields such as nursing, physician assistant studies, cybersecurity, and health sciences, providing students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.

“I am incredibly proud to work for an institution like Concord University, where our commitment to serving students in a holistic and meaningful way is reflected in this recognition as a College of Distinction,” said Chief Student Affairs Officer and Dean of Students Anna Hardy.

“Every day, I see the dedication of our faculty and staff as they support students’ academic, personal, and professional growth. Equally inspiring are our students, who take what they learn at Concord and use it to make positive, lasting impacts in their communities.”

Founded on the motto “Come to learn. Go to serve,” Concord University emphasizes experiential learning opportunities such as internships, research, and community engagement.

With 1,387 degree-seeking undergraduates—93% of whom are full-time—the university continues to prepare students for meaningful careers and lives of purpose.

The Colleges of Distinction list is updated annually to reflect institutions that continue to excel in engagement, innovation, and preparation for lifelong success.
