MORGANTOWN, WV (LOOTPRESS) – The Morgantown Fire Department (MFD) responded to a ground fire near Whitemore Park on Tuesday, November 12, after multiple reports of smoke in the area.
When firefighters arrived, they discovered a two-acre fire at the end of Forest Avenue.
The incident commander quickly requested additional support, calling in an on-duty engine and ladder company while also initiating a second alarm to bring in off-duty firefighters.
While all on-duty personnel, including the MFD Fire Marshals division, worked to contain the fire, second-alarm firefighters handled other calls across the city.
Crews used fire lines and hose lines to control the blaze, bringing it under control within about 30 minutes. However, firefighters remained on the scene until after 8:00 p.m. to extinguish lingering hot spots.
No surrounding structures were damaged, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Morgantown Fire Department plans to release additional information as it becomes available.
