COVINGTON, VA (LOOTPRESS) – A CSX train hauling coal derailed in Covington early Monday morning.
According to CSX, at approximately 2:21 AM Monday morning, a CSX train derailed 25 rail cars containing coal near Covington, VA.
The derailment occurred along the former Chesapeake & Ohio (C&O) line which runs east to west through West Virginia.
CSX says no injuries were reported.
CSX promptly initiated its emergency response protocols and is collaborating with Covington Police and other emergency responders to evaluate the situation.
CSX says its top priority is the safety and well-being of onsite staff and the surrounding community, and minimizing any environmental impact.
The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
