ORIGINAL STORY: West Virginia University’s search for its next men’s basketball head coach appears to be taking shape, with a new report Wednesday morning confirming speculation circulating on social media.
According to CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, University of North Texas head coach Ross Hodge is a “serious candidate” for the vacancy at WVU.
Hodge, who currently leads the North Texas Mean Green, has guided the program to the Final Four of the Postseason NIT.
While no final decision has been made, Rothstein reports that Hodge is under strong consideration to replace former WVU head coach Darian DeVries.
The North Texas coach has an existing connection to WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker, having previously worked with him at North Texas.
West Virginia’s coaching search follows DeVries’ departure to Indiana after just one season in Morgantown.
